Our vision is to design delightfully utilitarian payroll experiences that are easy to use for the developers who build these systems and the people who run the day-to-day operations of managing and processing payrolls.

At Check, we have big ambitions to rethink what it means to design enterprise software in this space. We believe that obsessing on delivering good utility coupled with good design enables us to simplify and innovate in a space that's always been inherently complex and highly regulated. 

Are you up to the challenge of reshaping what it means to pay people? We are looking for a talented product designer to join our small (but growing!) Design team in NYC, SF, or remotely.

What you’ll do:

• Work with engineers and product managers to define both the long-term strategy and the short-term tactics for shipping features in our core product areas
• Help the design team develop best practices to expand our product design systems and processes
• Help product and engineering teams collect user insights through user testing and research to better scope and evolve our product offering
• Work in a highly collaborative environment with project teams spanning design, product/engineering/solutions, payroll compliance and operations
• Work on projects that run the gamut—from highly spec’ed to very broadly defined (and often complex) problem areas. We’re building new payroll technologies so comfort with ambiguity is paramount

What you might work on:

• Payroll Activation - Onboarding product for Partners getting to their first payroll
• Partner Applications - Interfaces and tools for Partners and Ops Teams to manage and effectively run payroll 
• Check Components - Out-of-the-box UI components of key payroll functions to accelerate the build out payroll systems
• Check Design System - Help rethink and design the next iteration of Check’s Design System to use in Partner Applications and Check Components

What we’re looking for:

• Have 5+ years of experience of relevant product design experience (ideally in the FinTech,  infrastructure, and/or enterprise software space)
• Great systems thinker
  You have a knack for simplifying the complex. You are great at uncovering patterns and opportunities to efficiently evolve design systems while successfully driving and managing projects from ideation to final deliverable
• Exceptional design chops - You’re a skilled product designer who strives to design products that look just as good as they do function—leveraging the best design patterns but innovating where we can to push the quality of the visual design and UX of our core products
• Strong storyteller - You are persuasive and humble in explaining your work and process to internal and external stakeholders while having the ability to take abstract concepts and turn them into tangible and compelling stories across mediums and channels
• A champion for design - Your exceptional attention to detail and insights on current trends drives you to relentlessly advocate for solutions that are good for our end users whether they are internal or external-facing

You should be comfortable using

• Figma
• Google Suite (Docs, Sheets, Slides)
• JIRA
• Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, etc)

Bonus points

• Have payroll experience
• Have an interest in API design
• Working experience in creating pattern libraries and a passion for product design systems
• Have experience in designing and co-building motion design patterns
